Transformation of a Basement into a Luxurious Wine Cellar
People who are serious about wine collecting invest their time and money in building a safe place for their wines. In Chicago, climate-controlled home wine rooms are in demand because these spaces can protect wine from harm.
Wine Cellar Specialists, a master builder in Texas, can turn any space into a wine cellar that will provide wine with the perfect storage conditions. They have completed an installation project in the basement of the client’s home. They designed and built the room with creativity and passion to meet all the functional and aesthetic requirements of the owner.
Sophisticated Wine Rack Design
Assessing all the client’s needs and requirements allowed Wine Cellar Specialists to create a racking design for the basement. The 3-dimensional drawings show the different elevations of the room. They provide better visualization of the completed Chicago home wine room.
Features of the Racking System
The style and material of the wine racks play a vital role in the overall appeal and structural integrity of a custom wine cellar. In this installation project, the wine racks were manufactured from All-Heart Redwood and incorporated with combined bottle orientations for increased functionality and visual appeal.
The entire racking was constructed at an exact height to fit snuggly into the soffit. Wine Cellar Specialists also designed the wine racks with solid tops to provide the owner with additional wine storage space.
DOOR WALL (ELEVATIONS A) AND LEFT WALL (ELEVATION B)
When you enter the room, the wall to the left of the door consists of a tabletop for decanting and serving wine. This corking station was a great addition to the wine cellar.
Below the tabletop are two drawers and two cabinets, which serve as storage areas for the owner’s decanters, bottle openers, stemware, and other wine cellar accessories. On both sides of the tasting area are two-column wine racks.
A true-radius curved corner wine rack was added to create a smooth transition from Elevation A to Elevation B. The left wall consists of single bottle storage slots at the top section.
The middle section consists of a high reveal display row, which stores the client’s bottles at a 15-degree angle to keep the cork moist. Dried-out corks shrink and become brittle, resulting in the oxidation of the wine. When this happens, wine may be spoiled and become undrinkable.
Below the display, row are X bins, which are intended for bulk storage and better organization of wines according to type, varietals, or size. The two wood cases at the bottom of the X bin racks are also ideal for storing wines in bulk.
BACK WALL (ELEVATION C) AND RIGHT WALL (ELEVATION D)
Wine Cellar Specialists designed the back wall with an open arch at the center. There is an attractive piece of artwork, acting as the backdrop for the open area.
The peninsula table at the center of this home wine room in Chicago serves as a tasting area for the owner and his or her guests. The room was not that large, so the team of Wine Cellar Specialists needed to maximize the storage space.
They added individual wine racks to both sides of the table and three additional wooden cases in the front section. What a great idea to create wine storage space within the table!
Another curved corner wine rack was used for a smooth transition from the back wall to the right wall. The racking design at the top section consists of single storage wine racks, followed by a high reveal display row, and wooden storage bins for three cases at the bottom. The end racking is a quarter-round unit for displaying a few bottles in a vertical position.
HIGH-QUALITY AND GORGEOUS WINE RACK MATERIAL FOR A CHICAGO HOME WINE ROOM
Wooden wine racks exude warmth and classic appeal, making them a favorite choice for wine cellar owners. One of the most sought-after wood species in wine rack construction is All-Heart Redwood, known as the finest grade of Redwood harvested from the tree’s core.
Wine cellar racks made from All-Heart Redwood are stable, durable, and highly resistant to shrinkage, fungi, and insects.
Ideal Choice of Wine Cellar Refrigeration System
Although the basement is the coolest area in your home, it must be equipped with an efficient wine cooling system to achieve the environment needed for the proper maturation of wine.
Wine Cellar Specialists always make sure that the right type, size, and capacity of cooling equipment is installed in their client’s wine storage room.
CELLARPRO WINE CELLAR COOLING UNIT
In this basement conversion project, they chose the 3200VSi self-contained wine cooling unit by CellarPro. The unit, which sits in a nearby closet, is fully ducted. There is a soffit near the ceiling of the left wall, where the air is ducted into and out of the cellar.
This type of cooling system comes with electronic thermostats and digital displays for ease of monitoring the temperature and humidity of the wine cellar.
Another good thing about CellarPro cooling units is that they are built with visual and audible alarms that warn the owner when the storage conditions have exceeded the normal range. Additionally, this safety feature also gives a warning when the refrigeration system is not functioning and needs to be repaired.
Wine Cellar Door and Lighting
For the door, Wine Cellar Specialists chose the Vine style entryway. This is a rectangular door with arched glass. Grapevine wrought iron designs were placed at the top and bottom of the dual pane glass panel to allow a good view of the wine display from outside the cellar.
LED puck lights were used because they emit minimal heat while illuminating the display row with a dramatic effect. Moreover, this lighting system has a longer lifespan and consumes less energy.
