The timeless beauty of traditional style interiors makes them still in demand in building custom wine cellars both for residential and commercial applications. While modern wine room designs are becoming more popular nowadays, we have created constructed traditional wine rooms for clients who love the warm ambiance created by wood and classic accents in their wine cellar.
What are the Benefits of Choosing a Traditional Wine Cellar Design for Your Residential or Commercial Wine Storage room?
Before you start your wine cellar project, you must have a design in mind before calling an expert. For inspiration, you can search the web, and you will find various ideas for wine rooms. We have many clients who preferred a traditional style wine cellar for their home or business because they love the look of wood and the availability of designs.
Aesthetic Benefits of Traditional Wine Cellar Designs
Wood’s Earth tone color creates a warm and relaxing ambiance in a space. At Custom Wine Cellars Chicago, we utilize different wood species in manufacturing wine racks for building traditional wine rooms. Wood wine racks look very attractive, especially when designed by a creative and professional builder.
Traditional wine cellar designs consist of curved lines, architectural details, and ornate accents. When building traditional wine rooms, we usually include one or two of the following: wine barrels, chandeliers, wall sconces, stonework, and brick walls.
We use attractive wood species like Mahogany, Redwood, Knotty Alder, and Pine in manufacturing wood wine racks. We will recommend the best material suitable for your needs. They are all known for their high resistance to warping, shrinking, and mold. They also have the ability to withstand the humid conditions in a refrigerated wine cellar.
Design Flexibility
Wood wine racks are also easy to work with, allowing us to create a design that will suit each client’s needs. You can choose between the kit and custom wine racks. The style of your racking will depend on the following factors:
- Size and shape of your wine room
- The number of bottles you intend to store and display
- The size of bottles in your collection
- Your financial requirements
We will make a thorough assessment of your needs, and after gathering the necessary information for creating your wine cellar design, we will submit a proposal to you. It includes 3-dimensional drawings that show the different room elevations, racking styles, and bottle capacities. If you want to make changes to the design, we will modify it and resend the drawings. Once you approved the design, we will start the construction process.

Traditional Custom Wine Cellar Projects Completed by Our Specialists in Chicago
Custom Wine Cellars Chicago has completed many wine room construction projects with traditional design. By combing form and function, we were able to create wine cellars that are both elegant and capable of aging wines for many years. We are proud to be a part of these amazing wine cellar design and installation projects:
Beautiful Traditional Home Wine Cellar in Naperville, Illinois
In this wine room conversion project, our experts in Chicago had to build a small traditional wine cellar in the bar and entertainment area of the client’s home. We installed unfinished Premium Redwood custom wine racks. Leaving them unfinished resulted in pinkish to light brown tones.
We incorporated column wine racks, a square opening with a table and a stemware rack, a high-reveal display row, wooden case storage bins, and waterfall wine racks. We installed the waterfall wine racks on both sides of this traditional wine cellar, which display the bottles beautifully in a cascading manner. With our team’s creativity and expertise, we were able to build a wine room with a total capacity of 497 bottles.
Traditional Residential Wine Cellar Built Under the Stairs in Chicago, Illinois
Custom Wine Cellars Chicago had to create wine racks with descending heights to fit the slanting ceiling of the space under the stairs. We utilized Mahogany for the wine racks and left them unfinished. The racking styles include lattice horizontal wine racks, individual wine racks, high-reveal display rows, and a quarter-round display rack. We added a mural on one of the walls of this traditional custom wine cellar under the stairs. The Tuscan-style door helped achieve the classic appeal.
Custom Wine Cellar in Palos Heights, Chicago
Another traditional home wine cellar we created was for a homeowner in Palos Heights in Chicago. We built this wine room in the basement. The clients loved the unfinished Premium Redwood we installed in their wine cellar.
The racking system includes solid X bins, a solid arch with a tabletop, individual wine racks, high-reveal display rows, curved true radius wine racks, and case storage bins. We also added a reclaimed wine barrel peninsula table, adding a unique feature to this eco-friendly custom wine cellar.
